In the last 100 years, Chardonnay has become the #1 selling wine varietal in the US with almost 100,000 acres alone planted in California. The history of Chardonnay goes all the way back to the year 1912, when the Wente family brought Chardonnay cuttings from France and planted them in the Livermore Valley. It wasn't until1936 that the first vintage was varietally labeled Chardonnay in the nation. Today, the Wente clone of Chardonnay is the most widely planted in California. Continuing with its success, the Wente family has created 4 unique Chardonnay styles all with varying degrees of production and availability.
